Surrey County Council has proposed to introduce charges for on street parking in "busier locations" throughout Surrey.
About 3, 500 on street parking spaces have been identified by the council as places where charges as high as £1.40 per hour could be implemented.
According the theCouncil's Website advertising for the proposal started in Reigate and Banstead on 24 February and is due to start in Tandridge and Elmbridge in March. The full timetable of proposed work and advertising times can be found
here.
There has already been a huge stir about this proposal with residents from all over Surrey protesting. Shop owners are also going to feel the pinch if this proposal goes ahead with free parking spaces along busy shopping areas converted to pay and display or current parking charges increased.
Horley Town Council, Horley and District Chamber of Commerce and Tandridge District Council are also among those who disagree with the proposal and have urged Horley residents to sign their
online petition.
