Last Saturday the newly constructed Hindhead tunnel was open to more than 7,000 Surrey residents to walk through however over 10,000 hopefuls who applied for tickets were disappointed.
The £370 million project is amied at reducing congestion by allowing Hindhead residents to travel easily through their town and the Devil's Punchbowl and A3 commuters to pass underneath instead of weaving through.
The 1.2 mile long tunnel is set to open in July.

Does anyone know the exact location of the tunnel? I did a walk around Hinehead Common / Devils Punch Bowl last year and had to cross the Portsmouth Road twice (which was pretty dangerous) and it put me off going back there. Also, I seem to remember hearing the actual Road the tunnel was replacing was going to be closed and left to nature?
