Fame! at Woking - All profit goes to charity

Newly formed theatre company hopes to make a difference to lives in developing Africa. Woking based Procyon Productions will showcase its intepretation of Fame! The Musical at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre, Woking from September 9-12 with all the proceeds going to African charity, Ethiopiaid.

The company, founded by a group of young professionals and students of musical theatre aim to produce high quality theatre productions in Surrey. Procyon Productions aims amongst its goals to also provide a forum for young people in the borough to work on professional shows and to do help others while doing so. Procyon is a non-profit making organisation. With Fame, the group were unanimous in wanting all the shows proceeds to go to Ethiopiaid, which supports disadvantaged children in Africa.

Ethiopiaid aims to create lasting and positive change in Ethiopia by tackling the problems of poverty, ill health and poor education. To date, Ethiopiaid has donated over £20 million to partner projects in Ethiopia. Currently they are working with 20 dedicated partner projects and aim to donate approximately £2 million to these deserving causes each year. Poverty and hardship in Ethiopia is still extreme but with your help we can continue to give hope for the future to a country with a tragic past.

FAME! is set during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street. It tells the inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling work prior to working in the tough, unsentimental entertainment industry. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that still confront many young people today – issues such as prejudice, identity, self-worth and perseverance.

Shows start at 7.30pm each day with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £11 (£9 children and OAPs)
